FLAP-LESS VS LASIK; HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

Different Generation of Eye Laser Surgery

Comparison

Risk of Flap Complication

Flapless

However, this not the case with Flap-Less, which is as mutual as its own name!

Flap-Less has no flap issues.

LASIK

A flap is created during LASIK, and it is lifted to the side so that the underlying cornea can be shaped. After the reshaping of the cornea, the flap will be placed back onto its natural position.

Invasive

Flap-Less is relatively less invasive.

Flap-Less surgery is one of the recent advancements in laser vision correction. It is precise in treating nearsightedness and astigmatism, with a better quality of vision outcome.

Flap-Less is minimally invasive as compared to LASIK.

Dry Eye Symptoms

Flap-Less patients report fewer dry eye symptoms.

In Flap-Less surgery, minimal number of corneal nerves are being severed, therefore, it results in minimal dry eyes following the procedure. We highly recommend Flap-Less procedure for those with pre-existing dry eyes. However, our doctors will assess your condition thoroughly before suggesting for the best laser vision correction procedure for you.

It is common to develop dry eyes following LASIK, however, this condition will heal with time. The reason is because more corneal nerves are severed during flap creation.

Noise and Odour

Flap-Less is a lot more relaxing.

When compared to LASIK, Flap-Less has the advantage of producing no noise or ‘burning’ smell during the process and this gives patients with additional comfort for the patient.

During ablation, there will be burning smell and some noise.

Similarities

Painless

Flapless & LASIK

Both procedures provide comfortable experience. Almost all of our patients have reported that the procedure is painless and was way better than what they imagined!

A flap is created during LASIK, and it is lifted to the side so that the underlying cornea can be shaped. After the reshaping of the cornea, the flap will be placed back onto its natural position.

Ward Admission

Both are daycare procedures.

Patients can return home immediately after the procedure is complete. We will prescribe you with artificial tears (eye lubricants) and antibiotic eyedrops before you go home.

Quick recovery

Following the procedure, you will be able to see clearly within hours. Your vision will get clearer eventually. Some patients have even reported that they start driving safely after 6 hours of procedure! Therefore, if you have a tight schedule, you only need 1-2 days for the whole procedure to be complete. For Flap-Less, it can be done on the same day of the assessment.

HOW TO DECIDE?

Both procedures are safe and accurate to treat your refractive errors. For you to decide which procedure is best, it is important that you get a thorough assessment by our doctors and they will suggest which procedure is best for you! Come over to our centre and be part of our satisfied patients.
