Children (Paediatric) Eye Assessment
Introduction
Eye examination ideally should be done at the age of 4-5 years old in all healthy children. Children who wear glasses should have scheduled eye examinations yearly. Children with vision problems should see an eye doctor earlier since chances to recover from lazy eyes is higher once the eye condition is treated.
Recommendation
The American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus recommend the following timeline for children eye exams at these age groups;
- Newborn
- Infant (6 to 12 months old)
- Pre-schooler (3 to 6 years old)
- School age (Above 7 years old)

What’s the difference between a vision screening and an eye examination?
In contrast to vision screening, a comprehensive eye examination can facilitate the diagnosis of visual problems. It is a detailed and thorough investigation of the overall health of the eye and the visual system.
Can my child cheat or give a fake response in an eye examination?
We use cutting-edge technology and machines to assess children’s vision; therefore the result of the assessment highly relies on the objective evaluation, assessment results, and diagnosis given by the eye specialist.
