Comprehensive eye check-up in IKONIK entails detailed eye assessment from front until back part of your eyes using cutting edge machineries. This is followed by a consultation session with our clinical optometrist where dilating drops will be instilled. Finally, after your eyes had been dilated, you will then see the eye specialist for thorough consultation on your eye condition and get advice on what is the best treatments for your eyes.

Anyone;

• Aged 40-years old and above especially with history of systemic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, etc.
• Who never had a comprehensive eye check-up before
• Who notice abnormalities with their vision and eye appearance

Several eye disorders have subtle symptoms, hence early detection and treatment may
help in preventing vision loss.

Approximately 2 to 3 hours for the whole process to be done.

Your eyes are required to be dilated (widening of your pupil) to allow the doctor to get a better view of the back of your eyes.

Usually it takes around 4 – 5 hours for the pupil to back to its normal size however, it depends on your eye condition.

Yes, you are highly encouraged to come over for an eye check-up. However, we advise that you lay off (discontinue) your contact lens use for at least 10 days before your appointment.

Yes, she can. However, if she intends to undergo refractive surgery, we would encourage her to come after the delivery. The reason is because pregnancy changes the hormone levels that affects the refractive error of an individual. Therefore, readings and measurements fluctuates which leads to inaccuracy of the eye surgery. This applies for nursing women as well.

We suggest that you bring along someone to drive you home as dilation of the eyes causes blurring of vision and glaring.

You will know your suitability for the laser procedure during your comprehensive eye check-up. It is essential to ensure that your eyes are healthy before proceeding with the laser procedure.

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to those who are keen and eligible for the Flap-Less procedure because your procedure can be performed on the same day as the assessment. As for Femto-LASIK, we usually schedule your procedure every Thursdays and the assessment has to be done at least one day prior. So, if you come on a Wednesday, you have to wait for only one day before you’re glasses-free!

Yes, you can. The results of the comprehensive eye check-up is valid for up to 3 months. If you exceed the date, you have to repeat your comprehensive assessment from the beginning since we always aim to get the updated result to ensure the accuracy and optimum outcome for you.

If you fit for the surgery and the slot is available, you can undergo the surgery as soon as possible. Which also means that your surgery can done on the same day if there are available slots.

In some cases, the artificial lens has to be customized and specially ordered abroad. Hence, it may take up to 6 weeks for the lens to reach our centre and we will schedule your surgery immediately.

You do not have to fast before your surgery and please take your regular medications before the surgery especially for the diabetic and hypertensive patients. We only proceed with the surgery if the sugar and blood pressure level is within the normal range to ensure safety for your eyes.

It is not mandatory, it depends on the patient.

We will provide you with artificial tears and antibiotic eyedrops. Before you go home, we will explain to you on the use and frequency of the drops.

On the day of the procedure, you are advised to bring someone to drive you home as you might experience temporary visual discomfort which may be dangerous for you to drive or operate machines. However, you can continue doing light chores and daily activities.

Yes, it is normal and it is a temporary symptom. You can use your sunglasses to reduce the glare and make your eyes feel comfortable. It is also common to get teary and irritation on the eyes. You can just dab your tears on your lower eyelid without applying pressure on your eyeball.

You are advised to avoid any water sports activities such as swimming or diving. However, you can take shower normally with extra precautions on not exposing your eyes directly to the water. This is important for the first week for Flap-Less and the first month for Femto-LASIK.

The first follow-up is a week after the surgery followed by three and six months after the procedure.

You can continue your usual dietary intake, however, please avoid food that you’re allergic to.

Yes, you can continue your daily normal activities. However, refrain from heavy lifting or bowing. You’re not encouraged to do so in the first week after the surgery as the newly-implanted artificial lens are not yet stable.

Indeed, you can continue your ablution and prayers daily. However, precautions must be made to avoid your eyes from being in contact with water. For prayers, you are encouraged to pray while sitting down to avoid vigorous movements during sujood. This will be explained further during post-operation counselling.

It is compulsory to put on the eye shield to protect your eyes during the first week, especially while sleeping to avoid any injury that might occur from unconscious rubbing of your eyes during sleep. However, during daytime, you can protect your eyes by wearing your sunglass.

The healing process depends on individuals, however, in most cases, it takes one week for the patient to have clearer vision.

It would be best if you refrained from rubbing, scratching or putting pressure to the eyes. Adhere strictly to the dos and don’ts post-operation.

In the first week, we suggest that you take extra precaution when washing and shampooing your hair, be careful not to allow water to enter your eyes. This is because you may automatically rub your recently-operated eye and cause danger. Also, to clean your face, you may wipe your face gently with a wet towel.

After your surgery, you can travel by flight and please ensure that you instil your post-op eyedrops accordingly. However, for vitrectomy cases, you cannot take a flight, and this will be explained in detail by the surgeon and our paramedics.

Usually, patients are advised to go for the first follow-up appointment after one week from the operation date. While the second follow-up appointment is after six to eight weeks from the first follow-up, however, in remote instances, whereby your eyes showed sign of infections such as redness, discharge, swollen eyes and decreased vision, please do come instantly and if we are closed, please go to the nearby hospitals or clinics.
