Intravitreal Anti-VEGF Injection

Introduction

Anti-VEGF is the abbreviation of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor. This injection is given inside the jelly-like structure of the eye, i.e. the vitreous.

In some retinal vascular diseases, the formation of new vessels that are fragile and swelling of the retina occurs, and these conditions lead to visual impairment.

Hence, intravitreal anti-VEGF injection aims to arrest the growth of abnormal, leaky new vessels and reduce swelling of the retina. This has been proven to stabilise the disease process and visual improvement.
