FAQ on Laser Eye Surgery

How can I know the suitability of my eyes to undergo laser eye surgery?
We will examine your eye conditions first and if you are not eligible for laser eye surgery, we will suggest alternative procedures that suit you more.
Can laser eye surgery correct astigmatism?
Yes, laser eye surgery can effectively correct astigmatism along with nearsightedness (myopia) and farsightedness (hyperopia).
I have a packed schedule. I would like to proceed with my laser eye surgery in the next month after my comprehensive eye check-up, is it okay?
Yes, you can. The results of the comprehensive eye check-up are valid for up to 3 months. If you exceed the date, you have to repeat your comprehensive assessment from the beginning since we always aim to get the updated result to ensure the accuracy and optimum outcome for you.
Is laser eye surgery painful?
During the surgery, patients typically experience minimal discomfort. In the days following the procedure, patients are advised to use prescribed pain medications and lubricating eye drops as some patients may experience mild discomfort or a gritty sensation in their eyes.
What is the recovery time for laser eye surgery?
The recovery time can vary, but most patients experience improved vision within a few days to a few weeks. However, it's important to note that complete stabilization of vision can take several months.
What are the post-operative medications and eye drops to be used?
During the surgery, patients typically experience minimal discomfort. In the days following the procedure, patients are advised to use prescribed pain medications and lubricating eye drops as some patients may experience mild discomfort or a gritty sensation in their eyes.
When can I resume my normal routines?
On the day of the procedure, you are advised to bring someone to drive you home as you might experience temporary visual discomfort which may be dangerous for you to drive or operate machines. However, you can continue doing light chores and daily activities.
Will I have sensitivity towards the light?
Yes, it is normal and it is a temporary symptom. You can use your sunglasses to reduce the glare and make your eyes feel comfortable. It is also common to get teary and irritated in the eyes. You can just dab your tears on your lower eyelid without applying pressure on your eyeball.
How soon can I go back to work?
Most patients can typically return to work or school within a week, depending on their healing progress. However, it's important to follow your surgeon's guidance and consider any specific visual requirements of your job or activities.
Can I resume using electronic devices and watching TV?
While you may be able to use electronic devices and watch TV soon after laser eye surgery, it's advisable to limit screen time and take regular breaks to prevent eye strain. Follow your surgeon's recommendations regarding the duration and frequency of screen use during the initial healing phase.
When can I drive after laser eye surgery?
Driving can typically be resumed once your vision has significantly improved and stabilized. It's crucial to follow your surgeon's instructions and make sure you meet the legal visual requirements for driving in your jurisdiction.
